Enjoyed this sweet rom com featuring a self-described curvy fitness influencer and a fireman。 Great enemies-to-lovers, slow burn energy with lots of fun banter。 It dealt with some serious topics about body positivity & self-acceptance well, if a little too abruptly & neatly。 Still, a fast & compelling read with characters I was really rooting for。

like this book wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t an amazing romance story。 It was def a good overview on learning how to love yourself through the bad tho。 i loved Scotty but lowkey Crystal kind of annoyed me。 I dont know if it was just me or what。 I will def be reading the sequel but just bc I know Trevor would be hot in real life

i loved this book so much oml!! like the characters were super lovable, and the fact that the mc is plussize and the whole story kinda focuses on her journey with self acceptance and dealing with not constantly loving her body was just overall such an amazing message。

Book 96 of 2022I wanted to love this one…I truly did。 Unfortunately, it just fell short for me。 Was it all bad? Definitely not! I absolutely loved our male MC, Scott。 He was sweet, a family man, and a firefighter。 He had his priorities figured out & was mature。 I also loved the Crystal’s grandma。 She was a hoot! What I didn’t love was our main character。 Again, I *really* wanted to。 Partway through the book, she gets mad at Scott for “keeping secrets” from her, an insecurity of hers from her prev Book 96 of 2022I wanted to love this one…I truly did。 Unfortunately, it just fell short for me。 Was it all bad? DNF。 I really dislike it when young authors create cliche vulgar grandmother characters。 60+ years of my life, I've never met any women talking dirty especially older women。 Please just stop if you don't have wisdom to understand older generation。 DNF。 I really dislike it when young authors create cliche vulgar grandmother characters。 60+ years of my life, I've never met any women talking dirty especially older women。 Please just stop if you don't have wisdom to understand older generation。 。。。more

Really digging on this story of body love and self acceptance。 Crystal is trying to preach body positivity in a world that favors the size 0's。 And when she starts dating a guy with a 6 pack, she doesn't expect how hard the backlash is going to hurt her self esteem。 You can see the conflict coming at about 85% (view spoiler)[ when she breaks up with Scott because she has lost her confidence after reading negative comments on a post (hide spoiler)]。 What saves this story from melting into millen Really digging on this story of body love and self acceptance。 Crystal is trying to preach body positivity in a world that favors the size 0's。 And when she starts dating a guy with a 6 pack, she doesn't expect how hard the backlash is going to hurt her self esteem。 You can see the conflict coming at about 85% (view spoiler)[ when she breaks up with Scott because she has lost her confidence after reading negative comments on a post (hide spoiler)]。 What saves this story from melting into millennial hell, is her self awareness and willingness to accept that she needs to work on herself。 Amazing chemistry, and unique story。 。。。more

Book 63 of 2022There was a lot of hype around this one and I was excited to see what @AmyLea did with it -- but sadly, it was a big bundle of disappointment。 I struggle to even write a review because there are a few soapboxes I want to jump on, but I will try and refrain。 There were parts of this I liked, truly I did。 I especially liked the male lead, Scott, who was one of those great book-boyfriends。 He was also a fireman, and I realized that I need MORE romantic comedies with firemen in them。B Book 63 of 2022There was a lot of hype around this one and I was excited to see what @AmyLea did with it -- but sadly, it was a big bundle of disappointment。 I struggle to even write a review because there are a few soapboxes I want to jump on, but I will try and refrain。 There were parts of this I liked, truly I did。 I especially liked the male lead, Scott, who was one of those great book-boyfriends。 He was also a fireman, and I realized that I need MORE romantic comedies with firemen in them。BUT this female lead was a hot mess。 She was ALL over the place。 She had major over-reactions to Scott, while at the same time doing the exact same thing。 It was also clear that the author was using this character to promote her own personal feelings about a variety of issues, including "body positivity。" Unfortunately, it was not successful。 Any positive or encouraging message that could have come from this was lost in a sea of messiness。 I have a lot of personal feelings about the body positivity movement, and I think that it is a generation of women who are being lied to。 There is nothing positive about it, but I will refrain from my soapbox here。 Overall, I feel the same way here as I did when I read Sarah Hogle's "You Deserve Each Other。" Was it horrible, no。 But was it memorable? Nope。 It will sadly fall to the bottom of the list of books I have read this year, and Scott's wonderful leading-man attributes won't be enough to save it。 Rating -- three starsFormat -- audio book 。。。more

Set On You by Amy Lea is a delightful romance featuring plus-size Chinese American fitness influencer Crystal and I absolutely loved it。 I knew just from reading the dedication that I would fall in love with this one。 The message of being worth it just for being you is so heartfelt and clearly felt throughout the book。 The fact that Crystal doesn't have to learn to embrace her body and respect herself because she already does from the beginning is wonderful。 The fact that she works out regularly Set On You by Amy Lea is a delightful romance featuring plus-size Chinese American fitness influencer Crystal and I absolutely loved it。 I knew just from reading the dedication that I would fall in love with this one。 The message of being worth it just for being you is so heartfelt and clearly felt throughout the book。 The fact that Crystal doesn't have to learn to embrace her body and respect herself because she already does from the beginning is wonderful。 The fact that she works out regularly and is still plus sized is so realistic because this is true! You can train daily and still be curvy and I loved that this is shown here。 I adored Crystal and her positivity, her messages on her Instagram where she promotes ditching the scales and just learning to embrace yourself。 And let's not forget Scott, our love interest。 I will admit I started out a bit rocky with him (how DARE he steal her equipment) but I soon warmed up。 Their rivalry is adorable and the way their relationship formed was wonderful。 The development of rivals, to friends, to lovers was brilliantly done and I adored how they were friends first before taking that next step。 This is definitely a book that will fill you with warmth and just all round good vibes。 The perfect one to reach for if you're feeling low or down about yourself。 I highly recommend this one to any romance reader out there and I'll be eagerly awaiting Lea's next novel! 。。。more

SET ON YOU - AMY LEA RATING: 3 STARS ~I take in her words for a moment。 "How do I get my confidence back?" "You've gotta find it on your own terms。 You rediscover things you love about yourself and nourish them。 And not just the things society tells you that you should love。 Beauty isn't objective, you know, as much as society tells us it is。" ~ All I'm saying yes, that this book is popular! Yes, because it deals with relevant and important topics, even if it's *just* a romance novel。 Crystal is curvy, half-Asian, likes to go to the gym and is successful at her non-traditional job。 She is fiercely independent, loyal to her friends and family and you know what- she is not flawless。This book wasn't either, but I adored it for its great parts and was able to forgive any of its shortcomings。 Well, why wouldn't have I? Reading is all objective。Crystal was minding her own business in the gym - as she always did, at the same time, at the same gym - when all of the sudden, a rude Chris Hemsworth look-alike took over her pre-occupied equipment。 This resulted in a bit of flirty frosty demeanor, proceeding into a mini-war behind closed doors and an unforgettable kiss。What none of them expected, however, that they might be linked more than just by their lips, as past and current relationships tained their possible happily ever after。I liked Scott, he was a typical alpha male on the outside, while having a cool and considerate head on his shoulders。 He was emotionally mature, caring and at times outright funny。 I really quite like when a male MC falls into lust/love with their female counterpart FIRST, it just adds a bit of swoon-worthiness into a storyline。 I do think, the book was at some places a bit rushed, while being too detail-oriented at the wrong times。 I did not enjoy the "drama" as is evolved and reached its crescendo, I almost put down the book to DNF it。 I feel like its a bit of a hindrance when it comes to traditional publishing - the complications seem to be there just to have this element ticked off, but not always are proposeful enough。Anyway, if you like:In conclusion:Why should you read SET ON YOU?• If you love romance novels with complex behind-the-scenes issues。• Because you like reading enemies-to-lovers trope, and are not afraid of coming upon a bit of male eye-candy。• If you want to see tight-knit family settings and an adorable puppy!• You like representative romance: the book deals with mental health issues, self-love, toxic social media habits, diets, body-shaming, fitness culture, health scares etc。 This could be also a trigger warning!• Because it offers chemistry and banter。 They are cute together, what more can I say?!Oh, and I'm already loving Tara's story。 The title is everything!! 。。。more

It was okay, the influencer angle was super dull。 Romance was cute, but overall the story was just so overly focused/concerned about making the main character flawless and the ideal "curvy girl" It was okay, the influencer angle was super dull。 Romance was cute, but overall the story was just so overly focused/concerned about making the main character flawless and the ideal "curvy girl" 。。。more

This book is a nice, light-hearted read。 Loved the representations in this book and the development of the characters (especially Crystal’s outlook on her own body!)。 What annoyed me though are some of the decisions of Crystal throughout the book, but it was somehow justified near the end of the story。 I would recommend it for those who want a quick romcom read! A cute and fun romance about body acceptance and self respect。 Loved the banter between Crystal and Scott as well as how it started as enemies, to friends, to more than that。 What was also great was how looks can be deceiving and we all carry around baggage, some more visible then most。Looking forward to the next book, although I wish Tara didn't use a kindle to read her romance books。 c'mon, have her use a KOBO or something other than what the big A puts out。 A cute and fun romance about body acceptance and self respect。 Loved the banter between Crystal and Scott as well as how it started as enemies, to friends, to more than that。 What was also great was how looks can be deceiving and we all carry around baggage, some more visible then most。Looking forward to the next book, although I wish Tara didn't use a kindle to read her romance books。 c'mon, have her use a KOBO or something other than what the big A puts out。 。。。more
